Meow Meow Tweet {Baby line Review}

When I discovered that Meow Meow Tweet launched a new line of products for baby, I contacted them immediately.  They kindly sent me a sample/travel size of each of the 5 products.  Read on to see my thoughts!

If this is the first you've heard of Meow Meow Tweet, let me tell you a little about the brand.  It's a small-batch apothecary in Brooklyn, NY founded by Jeff Kurosaki and Tara Pelletier.  The pair met in art school and started the company in 2009 after being gifted a bar of handmade soap.  I know you're wondering about the company's name; It comes from their two cats and Jeff's bird back in his home state of Hawaii- how sweet!

Since I'm a former Pastry Chef, I love that Tara utilizes skills from her background in the culinary world to create and develop the products!  As vegans, Tara and Jeff formulate their products using purely all-natural plant and mineral-based ingredients.  They use absolutely no animal-derived ingredients, so Meow Meow Tweet's products are free of carmine, beeswax, honey, palm oil, lanolin and tallow and are Leaping Bunny cruelty-free certified.

Baby Bath Wash

This is a super gentle wash that can be used for baby's hair and body.  The less products I need to juggle while bathing a squirmy child, the better.  The formula is moisturizing, lathers well, and the sweet orange + lavender scent is perfection!  Little miss L was left with clean, baby soft skin after bath time.  I really appreciate that MMT offers it in a plastic pump foaming bottle for ease of use AND a glass bottle for those who are trying to limit the use of plastic.

Ingredients:
aqua (water), *cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, *helianthus annuus (sunflower) oil, *ricinus communis (castor) oil, citric acid, +potassium hydroxide, *vegetable glycerin, *rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, *citrus sinensis (sweet orange) essential oil, *lavandula officinalis (lavender) essential oil

*certified organic ingredient / +none remains after saponifying oils

Baby Body Balm

This can be used all over baby's body but also works well as a preventative diaper rash cream.  You can mix it at a 1:1 ratio with the baby powder to create an effective diaper rash remedy.   And guess what mamas?!  It's cloth diaper safe!  Yay!  The scent is mild and I love that it can be used anywhere- on baby or mama!

Ingredients:
*mangifera indica (mango) butter, *helianthus annuus (sunflower) oil, *simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, *sesamum indicum (sesame) oil, infused with *matricaria chamomilia (chamomile), *calendula officinalis (calendula), *plantago major (plantain), *althea officinalis (marshmallow) root, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax, *rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract

*certified organic ingredient

Baby Body Oil

The body oil is similar in scent to the body cream.  It's not overpowering and is free of essential oils, which can irritate some people.   I think a body oil is perfect for using right after bath time while the skin is damp to allow it to sink in effortlessly.  This is ideal for massaging baby as well!  I even used a little for "styling" my daughter's hair!

Ingredients:
*persea gratissima (avocado) oil, *helianthus annuus (sunflower) oil , *simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, *sesamum indicum (sesame) oil, infused with *matricaria chamomilia (chamomile), *calendula officinalis (calendula), *plantago major (plantain), *althea officinalis (marshmallow) root, *rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract

*certified organic ingredient

Baby Body Powder

The body powder is incredibly light and effective at absorbing extra moisture wherever needed.  I enjoyed using it during diaper changes because I would take a whiff before I sprinkled it.  Lavender + Tea Tree = calming and soothing!

Ingredients:
*maranta arudinacea (arrowroot) powder, kaolin clay, zinc oxide, *lavandula officinalis (lavender) essential oil, *melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) essential oil

*certified organic ingredient

Cocoa Skin Cream

The skin cream is rich and creamy (as the name implies).  While it is a thick cream, it melts on contact with your skin and rubs in easily.  It's formulated with only four wonderful ingredients and without essential oils.  I personally really enjoy the cocoa butter scent!  My daughter tends to get red, rosy cheeks and dry patches from time to time.  I found this worked well in soothing, moisturizing, and healing her skin.

Ingredients:
*cocoa butter (butyrospermum parkii), *butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, *cannabis sativa (hempseed) oil, *helianthus annuus (sunflower) oil

*certified organic ingredient

Overall, I was definitely impressed with each of these products and highly recommend you go ahead and buy them NOW for your little one OR as a welcome baby gift for someone else.  While these baby products are a little more pricey, the ingredients and quality are superior and it shows!

Songcroft Naturals Review: Frankincense Rose Cream

Songcroft Naturals is a family-owned business in Snohomish, Washington.  Marilene Richardson is the Owner and Chief Formulator and she learned the importance of natural living at an early age.  After becoming ill and extremely chemically sensitive, she made it her mission to create her own line of natural personal care products.

Something that sets Songcroft Naturals apart from other natural skincare brands is that they grow many of their ingredients on their farm using organic practices.  "SongCroft is a working permaculture farm with bees, dairy goats, chickens, fruit trees, and lots of culinary as well as medicinal herbs and vegetables. Permaculture is a design system based on ethics and principles which can be used to establish, design, manage and improve all efforts made by individuals, households and communities towards a sustainable future."

The Frankincense Rose Cream was formulated to encourage healthy skin and this is what we all strive for, right?!  I would say it's a light to medium weight moisturizer.  The consistency is thin, but it definitely leaves my skin hydrated.  The scent is delicate and not overpowering at all.  It works well under makeup and provides a smooth base for foundation.  Marilene also suggested using it as a base for a DIY foundation!  Check out her post for details.  I tend to use lots of face oils, but it's nice to have a cream moisturizer for a change.

Ingredients: Water, Aloe perryi (Aloe Vera), Prunus americana (Apricot) oil, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) oil, Sodium benzoate, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl alcohol, Sodium stearoyl lactylate, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Organic Soy Lecithin, Cera alba (Beeswax), Rosa damascens (Rose) Flower Distilate, Boswellia carteri (Frankencense), Pelargonium gaveolens (Rose Geranium), Canaga odorate (Ylang Ylang), Citrus medica limonium (lemon), Rosa rubiginosa (Rose Hip) oil

I must admit I didn't recognize some of the ingredients and had to look them up.   I used EWG as a reference and all of the ingredients in question scored a 1 or below, with the exception of Sodium Benzoate (it scored a 3).

Marilene provided this information to clarify further: "...sodium benzoate is a food grade preservative.  We use it in conjunction with the radish lacto-ferment to provide a broad spectrum preservative against bacteria and fungus.  It should also be noted the cetearyl alcohol is different than other alcohols. It is an emulsion stabilizer and is not drying.  Sodium stearoyl lactylate is not from dairy and is a salt that helps in emulsifying.  Sodium benzoate is also an emulsifying ingredient. These ingredients help the cream ingredients to not separate."

"...we choose to practice truth in labeling and provide all names using INCI standards.. Some of our ingredients are not legally required to be listed as they are at such a small amount but we do list them because it is the right thing to do."

Songcroft Naturals has generously offered a 10% discount AND free shipping using the code "gsgigi" at checkout!  They have a wide range of products, so check them out!

moss: modern.organic.sacred. skincare {Review and Giveaway}

I discovered moss on Instagram and I'm so glad I did.  Moss is a luxury, organic skincare line that harnesses the power of Nature + bliss + ritual to create and sustain beauty.  Celestyna, the creator, shares so much more about the line here, so please check it out!  I had the pleasure of reviewing two products: the Beurre Céleste Honey Oil Cleanser + Mask and the Goddess Bikini Soothing Serum.  Read on to see why these two are quickly becoming favorites!

The Beurre Céleste Honey Oil Cleanser + Mask is incredibly decadent.  Beurre Céleste was formulated to gently exfoliate, tone, heal, combat bacteria, and clear congested pores.  Oh, and it also has anti-aging + anti-wrinkle properties thanks to the kokum butter.

I'm not sure why I haven't jumped on the oil cleansing bandwagon earlier, but my skin is loving it!  Beurre Céleste is amazing at removing makeup and my skin is literally glowing after use.  Unlike the typical oil cleansing method that only uses a blend of oils, this cleanser also includes honey, kokum seed butter, beeswax, and more!  I truly enjoy the calming ritual of cleansing my face and look forward to it at the end of the day.  The nutty scent and massaging it into my skin; placing a warm towel over my face to open pores, breathe, and just relax.  I think this product is definitely effective and I can only imagine how beneficial it would be to use a complete moss skincare regimen!

ORGANIC INGREDIENTS:
raw honey, macadamia ternifolia (macadamia) nut oil, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, garcinia indica (kokum) seed butter, beeswax, lecithin, myrtus communis (myrtle) oil, citrus aurantium amara (petitgrain) leaf oil, neroli oil, citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil

Now let's talk about the Goddess Bikini Soothing Serum, shall we?!  I would call this product a MUST HAVE for summer.  I think we often forget to moisturize our bikini area, so having a special product designated for the job is always a good idea.

I just happened to wax right before receiving this, so it couldn't have been more timely!  I applied it and redness from waxing diminished and my skin was more calm and soothed.  I can say without a doubt that it helped to minimize ingrown hairs.  And the scent is so lovely.  It's like a sweet smelling perfume for your bikini area.  It also absorbs into the skin rather easily.

INGREDIENTS:
grapeseed oil, tamanu oil, rosehip oil, olive oil, therapeutic EO blend (rose geranium, bergamot, coriander + others)

This product is so exclusive, it's currently not listed on their site!  If you're interested in purchasing a bottle, feel free to email Celestyna at celestyna@mosskincare.com.
